Privacy Policy

Selectie is an app for football coaches. This privacy policy explains which personal data we process when you use the app, why we do so, and what rights you have. Last updated on 21 August 2026.
Who we are
Selectie is provided by Tom Maessen (sole proprietorship / eenmanszaak), registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 83543937 and established at Sint Gertrudisstraat 52, 6051 BV Maasbracht, the Netherlands. What data we process
We process two kinds of data: the details of your coach account, and the data you enter in the app about your team and players.
Your coach account
Email address: to create your account, sign in and send you a verification code.
Password: stored hashed at Clerk, so the provider cannot read it.
Email addresses of co-coaches: if you invite a co-coach for a season, we store their email address to give them access. That is a personal data point of another person that we process on your behalf.
Push token: we store a push token per device so we can send you push notifications (reminders and messages to co-coaches).
Data you enter about your team
As a coach you enter data about your team and players. This may include:
Players' name, shirt number and position
Whether a player plays with dispensation (an age exemption)
Attendance at trainings and matches (present, absent, injured, cancelled or late)
Injuries and injury history
Playing minutes, goals, assists and yellow and red cards
Substitutions you record during the match
Notes you add to matches and trainings
Your team or club name and the team logo you upload
Players do not have their own account and do not enter anything themselves. Only coaches use Selectie.
Push notifications
If you allow push notifications, the app registers a push token per device. We use that token to send you reminders (for example that attendance still needs to be filled in or the selection still needs to be put together) and to notify your co-coaches when the selection is ready. Push messages are sent via the Expo push service.
Calendar import
If you link your club's match calendar via an ICS feed, the app stores the URL of that feed and synchronises it periodically and automatically, so that new matches and trainings come in.
Data about underage players
Many teams consist of youth players, so as a coach you enter data about underage players. You, as the coach, together with your club, are responsible for ensuring you are allowed to record this data and that you have obtained consent where required from the player or their parents or guardians. We advise you to enter no more data than is needed to manage your team. Selectie does not collect any data directly from children.
What we use your data for
To make the app work: keeping and showing your team, trainings, matches, selections and statistics.
To manage your account and let you sign in.
To enable collaboration with co-coaches within a season.
To send you reminders and messages via push notifications.
We do not use your data for advertising, we do not track you, and we do not sell your data.
Sharing with other parties
To run the app we use a number of service providers that process data on our behalf:
Clerk: for accounts and signing in.
Convex: for storing your team and match data.
Cloudflare R2: for storing team logos.
Expo: for retrieving app updates (EAS Update) and for sending push messages via the Expo push service.
These parties process data solely to deliver the service, partly outside the EU. This transfer is covered by their data processing agreements, which include the EU standard contractual clauses. We never sell your data and do not share it with parties for advertising purposes.
Keeping and deleting data
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account, along with all associated data, at any time from within the app. No longer have access to the app? You can submit a request via the Account deletion page.
When you delete your account, all your teams with their seasons, players, matches, trainings, attendance, line-ups, goals, cards, substitutions and injuries are deleted. Your team logos are also erased from storage (Cloudflare R2), and your links to other people's seasons, any pending invitations to your email address, your push tokens and the notification log are removed. Finally, we delete your user record and your sign-in account at Clerk.
Your account and all associated data are deleted immediately. In technical backups held by our service providers they may still appear for up to 7 days afterwards; these expire automatically. After deletion we keep no personal data, unless the law requires us to retain certain data for longer.
Security
We take appropriate measures to protect your data. Passwords are stored hashed at Clerk and the connection to the app is secured. No service is entirely without risk; if you find a vulnerability, please let us know at info@tommaessen.nl.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct or delete your data, and to object to certain processing. Much of this you can arrange directly in the app. For other requests, email info@tommaessen.nl or use the contact form on the website. You can also file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Changes to this privacy policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. You can always find the most recent version on this page, with the date of the last change at the top.
